it’s Twilight Zone time again

I’m in Chicago, where it’s cold and blustery — just my kind of weather.  Gives me an excuse to wear sweaters just a little bit longer.  And just when I can’t stand the cold any longer, poof!  I get to fly back to Alabama.  My trip here was unexciting, except for the courtesy upgrade to first class on the leg from Atlanta to Chicago.  Way to go Delta!  The friends I was going to meet on Sunday were unexpectedly delayed, so I had a day all to myself to work, knit, read, spin (yes, I brought a spindle) and sleep.  My conference starts this evening, so I’ll be busy for two days and then head home.

Why the Twilight Zone reference?  Here’s the story.  Last year, when I joined Ravelry, one of the first groups I investigated was for Wisconsin knitters.  There was a thread about displaced Wisconsinites, and I posted to it.  And forgot all about it.  Until last night, when I had a reply from someone who’d just joined the group, who also grew up in Oconomowoc.  That lead me to read through the rest of the thread, and find a comment from someone who graduated from Brown Deer High School.  That’s where BJ Bass and his brother went to school.  I mentioned that online, someone else saw the post and sent me a private message.  Turns out she knows Brother of Bass, because her sister used to date him.  The internet certainly makes ours a very small world, doesn’t it?

I’d show pictures of my knitting and spinning projects, but I can’t find the @#$%^&*(* cable to upload them.  I’m knitting another Baby Surprise Jacket out of hand dyed, hand spun superwash merino.  That’s my knitting in the lobby while talking project.  I also am working on a pair of socks for my sister out of Hoobody Sock, color What’s Cookin’.  That was my airplane knitting.  I’ve also brought along the Agatha Shawl, being done out of some stash yarn that I spot dyed.  This is my “I need something to keep me from bouncing off the walls” project, which I haven’t touched yet.

I’m not much of a spindle spinner, but I do love to spin, and at the last minute decided that this would be the perfect opportunity to enhance my spindling skills with some practice.  So I packed my one and only spindle and a batt that I’d just received in the mail from  Copperpot Woolies.  I have a lot to learn, but it’s nice to have loverly fiber to learn on.
