from alpaca to yak, and everything in between
First things first — for those few of you who aren’t in daily contact with Liz or me, she’s on the mend, and finally has a cast on her wrist. Linda, if you’re reading this, your son is a peach! No one could ask for a better boss than Liz has, she’s one lucky girl to have found this job. Of course they’re lucky to have someone so talented as Liz too.
I had a delightful weekend of spinning. A local vendor put together a seminar on spinning techniques, and I was quick to sign up when I saw who was teaching. Merike Saarniit was the person who taught Liz and me to dye yarn two years ago. We thoroughly enjoyed that class, and I couldn’t wait to take a spinning class from her. I was not disappointed. Saturday’s class was spinning for lace, taught by Stefania Isaacson, which is where I learned to spin everything from alpaca to yak. During this weekend I overcame fears, conquered fibers hitherto resistant to my attempts at spinning them, discovered I know more than I thought and, of course, bought fiber, fiber and more fiber. And a pair of small hand cards. None of it needed, all of it coveted, most of it piled on my dining room table right now.
One more delightful aspect to this weekend was the opportunity to meet face-to-face with Elizabeth of Trailing Yarn. We’ve read each other’s blogs for a year or so and corresponded via e-mail, but we’ve never met, despite the fact we don’t live too far apart. She stayed at our house Friday night, which was a real treat. BJ Bass is gone most evenings, so having company on a Friday night, company that knits and chats with me, is a special event. And she brought me fiber! Click that link and you’ll see the most gorgeous hand-blended batt of fiber. I’ve lusted after some of this stuff for so long. I don’t know how Elizabeth knew that, but she couldn’t have chosen better.
Since she’s not leaving for home until tomorrow, Merike is coming over for dinner tonight, so I guess I’d better go clear off the dining room table so we’ll have someplace to eat!

That’s right! You had to clear off your dye station! :o) Sorry I didn’t get to say bye, I didn’t know you were leaving when you came to talk to Merike. I had a great time meeting you! My head’s still swimming with everything I learned…
