cat in action

No, not that cat. That’s our Loki, sitting on my finished Cluaranach scarf. Silly cat. No, this Cat…010908_cat_in_action.jpg

Cat Bordhi, the clever, creative, think-outside-the-box creator of knitted shapes amazing and unusual. And functional. Yesterday’s class was focused on her new methods of sock design, found in her new book. Here she’s demonstrating a new type of provisional cast on to a group of fellow shopowners.

Although I have a copy of the book, I never have had the amount of quiet time I need to delve into a completely new way of thinking about knitting. I signed up for this class assuming it to be an overview of all the different architectures she’s developed for sock construction. The beginning of the series, so to speak.

WRONG! This was the class for the overachievers, those who’ve already mastered her techniques. This class was to train us to see how we can develop our own new style of sock knitting. Boy, did I feel foolish. But not for long. Cat is not only an excellent teacher, but a gracious one as well, and she simply gave me a copy of the instructions for a sample sock made in the easiest method found in her book, and then walked me through it, all the while helping everyone else do their own thing too.

Ta da! One Swirling Coriolis sample sock down, one to go.  I haven’t had much chance to work on the Sea Monkey (Ravelry link), but I’m in a non-knitting class this afternoon, so I think I’ll make some progress.

Tonight’s the Galleria and fashion show, and tomorrow market opens.  Guess I’d better hurry up and finish my budget so I know how much I have to spend.
