I have this idea

BJ Bass thinks I’m crazy, but I have this idea. Our kitchen is in sad shape. Except for new-ish appliances, everything in there is original. Twenty-three years old. The cupboards were cheap to begin with, and they’re showing their age. We have so much to do to this house, that we don’t want to spend a ton of money on cosmetics. I had thought about painting the cupboards, and distressing them, and then along came this idea that won’t leave my head.

Remember the log cabin blanket I made for Hans and Laura? I was wandering around Etsy last week, and found this art print, which reminds me of the blanket. I am stuck on the idea of painting my kitchen cabinet doors to resemble these designs.

Mind you, I’ve never painted a thing in my life except my fingernails (badly) and a couple of walls in my house. But this doesn’t look terribly difficult. I think I’d use something like oil paints, to give it some texture, and then I’d have to put on a heavy coat of polyurethane to protect it.

Am I nuts?

I’ve been knitting and spinning, but I have to go clean the house now, so I’ll have to tell you about them later.

  1. I think it sounds great! Would you buy new cabinets to paint, or just paint the existing ones? It could be fun, and look really fun! But, uh, you’d have to re-wallpaper the room, then, because that ugly stuff in there would certainly clash with the new cabinets! :)
