bye, bye little bee

I’ve been working on my Honeybee Stole for a couple of weeks now, and today I came to the realization that this project and I aren’t meant for each other. Don’t get me wrong, I love the pattern. I love the yarn. But I don’t love them together. The Claudia Handpaint silk is wondrous stuff, but with the tendinitis I have in my left arm, it’s a pain to knit lace with. I even think I’d be able to struggle through with the silk if I didn’t have a deadline looming. But I want to get at least half of this done before the class I’m teaching in October, and that just ain’t gonna happen with this yarn.
So I trooped off to the yarn store this afternoon, and came home with three hanks of Malabrigo laceweight merino in a color they call cadmium. Very honey bee-ish. Now to wind it up and start again. I think, at a later date, the Claudia silk just might like to be Anne’s newest shawl, Twinings. We’ll see.
In other news, CJ started complaining of a terrible sore throat yesterday. Last night he was as miserable as I’ve seen him in a long time. This morning he could hardly croak, and so he went to the doctor. I was afraid it was strep. Worse. It’s mono. The doctor gave him meds for the pain, a note for work and permission to eat all the ice cream and pudding he can for the next week.
We’re hoping he’s feeling somewhat better by next Wednesday, because Bass and I are going to North Carolina to see Liz. He hasn’t seen her since March; I haven’t seen her since June. We miss our baby. And our grandcats. And we hear her friends Wes and Maggie are getting a new puppy. Maybe they’ll let us play with her. Of course, we haven’t met the old puppy yet either. Maybe we can play with her too.
