a fine pair of bloggers we are

I truly admire those bloggers who write every day. I enjoy those blogs, I look forward to catching up on the doings of these people I feel like I know. I’m pretty sure no one feels that way about me. I have the very best of intentions of writing at least something every day, or at least every week, and then life gets in the way and here I am. So here’s the update from, what, ten days ago?

What? You thought you were going to see yarn and knitting first? I’m catching up, remember? This family photo was snapped the last day of my vacation in Oconomowoc. That’s me on the left next to Mom. The person on the other side of her is a dear old family friend and our first babysitter. She was just a teenager when we were babies. KC and Beth don’t even remember her. But I do. I adored her. I think the last time I saw her was at my dad’s funeral, in 1974. This was a much happier occasion.

So what have I been knitting, you ask? A surprising amount.

I started these Monkey socks on the plane to Milwaukee. Do you really need the link at this late date? The yarn is my own handspun, lovely squishy merino dyed by Adrian in a color she calls Blows Smoke. I am close to being finished with sock #2. These really are the perfect socks to knit. Interesting enough to hold my attention, not so complex that I’m chained to the pattern.

The tulip cardi from Dream in Color was next up. We’d been waiting and waiting for this yarn at the store, and when it finally arrived last week, I snatched up the yarn (more lovely, squishy merino) and cast on. It took me a total of three days to make this cutie. I can see why Ms. Harlot was besotted. Mandi, honey, kits are made and waiting for you at the store.

Now on the needles, nearing completion — a Baby Surprise Jacket. I made one years ago, and enjoyed the process. We’ve had lots of requests for the pattern at the store, so we’re now stocking them, and I’ll be leading a class on it next month. I wanted to see how it would look made in lightweight, summer-ish yarn. This is Tofutsies from SWTC, color #790. The color is almost right here, except the purple is less red in real life. This is turning out a bit small, more preemie size than newborn, but that’s okay. I have other yarn pulled to make a larger version.

Now, I’m afraid I have to let life intervene once again, and go to work.
