At war with the interweb

Today has been the day when the internet and I went to war. It actually started last night, when I got an invitation to join the Sockapalooza Four Blog. I was able to join without a hitch, but Blogger absolutely would not let me post (and judging from some of the posts in the blog, I wasn’t the only one experiencing technical difficulties). Every time I’d hit the submit button, it’d forward me to the login page (despite the fact that I had already logged in). It reminded me of a glitch I battled with over at MySpace a few weeks ago - every time I’d try to log in, it’d forward me to a page that said, “You must be logged in to do that!” … Um, yeah. Anyway, after trying (and failing) again a couple of times this morning, I was finally able to make my “hello!” post this afternoon. Except that it posted twice (and again, I don’t seem to be the only one this happened to). And now, when I try to go into the “edit posts” section to delete my duplicate post, Blogger forwards me to a page with the myserious “bX-pn6gdm” error. (A Google search tells me that Blogger is aware of this problem and is trying to fix it… but that still doesn’t help me at present.)

But it’s not just the interweb that’s been giving me fits today. Oh no, my own wireless network has been ganging up on me, too. My router (affectionately named “Sebastian”) has dropped in and out of view all day. That, in and of itself is not so rare… it’s sort of flakey like that. But my standard back-up, a neighbor’s unsecured network, has been mysteriously dropping in and out, too. And the connections have been very weak when they were available. It’s all very strange. I reset the router and changed some settings on my firewall, though, and things seem to be working now, though (knock on wood), so… here’s hoping that all the wonky stuff has decided to stop.

The one good thing about the internet being, for all intents and purposes, “out” this afternoon, though, is that I got some work done on my sock.

Aurelia Socks #2: WIP

As you can see, there’s not a whole lot of yarn left to work with. Luckily, there’s not a whole lot of sock left to knit, either. It’ll be close, but I think I’ve got enough. So far I’ve done 15 pattern repeats - 12 on the leg and 3 on the foot. I’ve got about 9 g left, each repeat takes about 2.5 g, and I’ve got 3 repeats and the toe left to knit. Can I get the toe out of ~1.5 g of yarn? Stay tuned to find out. I may end up having to dye up some complementary yarn to finish the toe with. But damnit, I am not frogging this sucker back to shorten the leg any. It’d probably actually be less work than dyeing up more yarn, but… I’m really stubborn about not back-tracking if I don’t have to. (That’d be the German in me, I think. The Irish in me just says, “Aw, hell!” and reaches for a drink.)

In other news, I talked to another person about another job opportunity today. It’s a job with the web development team at BB&T, and while I’m probably not quite their ideal candidate, the HR person I talked to today said she’d forward my application to the team just in case, since my lengthy personal experience may make up a bit for my lack of professional experience. I didn’t hear anything about the other position today, as I had hoped I would, but I’m waiting patiently (or attempting to, at least) for Monday to roll around. Still, it’s hard to knit (and type!) with your fingers crossed.

  1. The Aurelia socks look just as beautiful in green! I hope your yarn doesn’t run out.

  2. I saw your intro over on the Sockapalooza blog and just wanted to stop by!
