Social engagements, and of course, socks
The last two days have been, comparatively speaking, quite busy. Most of my time these days is spent holed up in the apartment, working on one thing or another. I don’t usually go anywhere, because I can’t justify driving my car very far in its current condition, and I can’t afford to do or buy anything anyway. Plus, most of my friends are still in school, and it’s getting to the end-of-term time when everyone’s swamped 24/7, so it’s not like there are lots of social events to attend. But on Sunday, my friend Eva had her Senior Art Opening, so we went to show support and oggle all her (and her classmates’) lovely art. (And if you’re interested, Eva’s design portfolio can be found here.)

Then, Sunday evening, a few of us joined up to celebrate the long-time-coming engagement of our friends Dina and Chad. (There must be something in the water, because I swear, practically everyone I know who wasn’t married already is either getting engaged, planning a wedding, or newly wed.) When I headed out that evening, I wasn’t feeling so well, and I was afraid I was going to be a real downer at the dinner party. But apparently all I needed was a little caffeine to perk me up, and half a Coke later, I was my usual talkative self (sorry to everyone there if I overpowered any and all conversations… I have a bad habit of doing that…)
Our usual weekend LOST-viewing get-together had to be postponed til Monday, since Eva was busy all weekend preparing for her art opening, but Monday evening finally rolled around, and we gathered to watch another three episodes from Season 3 (including, I’m happy to report, my favorite episode thus far, “Par Avion” - I do so love Claire). During a break, Hans got out his nifty newly-acquired blow torch and flambéed us some crème brûlée. Yum!

Today, too, has been busy. I got up this morning and got ready for my first interview of the day, with someone from Aquent. Since the woman I was meeting with is out of the Charlotte office, I suppose she doesn’t have a local office to meet in, so I was told to meet her at the Panera at Southpoint Mall. This was actually rather convenient (driving further than I’d like, aside), since I know that Panera quite well - I used to live about 5 miles away, and I frequently went there to work. Good coffee and free WiFi and all that jazz… Anyway, so the meeting went quite well, and now I’ve got a bit more time to kill before I have to head out to Cary for the actual job interview later this afternoon. Keep your fingers crossed for me… We’re hoping that one goes well, too, since all things considered, that’s the important one.
Meanwhile, I’ve started working on my second pair of Aurelia Socks. I ended up going with the light green Kogiu, and so far I’m quite pleased with how it’s turning out. I’ve got a little less than half the leg done on the first sock, and I’m hoping to knock out a few more rounds before it’s time to head out to my second interview.

As a side note, that photo of the sock WIP was taken on my mantel, and the picture behind the sock is my Grandma Manning’s high school senior photo, one of my more cherished possessions. She was a wonderful woman, and I do miss her dearly.
And on yet another (completely unrelated) side note, why do I have the Drunken Sailor song stuck in my head? It’s horrible! And a quick Google search tells me that one of the verses of the shanty goes “Shave his back and knit a sweater” … Which is kind of gross, really, but… it’s sort of a nice little segue back to the world of knitting, so… there you have it.

Great pictures of Eva (she got rid of her braids!) and Hans and Aurelia. I like in the green Koigu. All my fingers and toes are crossed for you re the job interview this afternoon. Call me and tell me how it went.
