what’s in a name?
I was reading the newspaper this morning. As I turned to the last page of the Life section, my attention was grabbed by a familiar name. Mine. It’s an odd feeling to see your own name in the byline of an article you’re pretty sure you didn’t write. Oh, but how I wish I had!
This Meg Manning is a junior at Randolph High School. I first became aware of her when BJ Bass performed in the pit orchestra of one Randolph’s musicals. I then met her a couple of years ago, when she was in line behind me at Wendy’s. I’m sure she thought I was a bit goofy when I introduced myself, but then she remembered the BJ Bass connection, and mentioned that she’d been to Yarn Expressions, and we chatted amiably after that.
Meg Manning the younger spent last week as an intern at a big fashion house in New York. The week before spring break at Randolph is interim week, where students have the opportunity for field trips, community service work or career exploration. Friends of co-workers of her father were able to arrange this expedition for her, and it sounds like she had a memorable, and educational experience.
Meg Manning the elder had a less than memorable week. She mostly just worked, walked the dogs, cooked and knitted away on her stealth project. Yes, I’m working on a somewhat secret project, which makes for poor blog fodder. Perhaps when it’s ultimately revealed I’ll be able to write about it and share that feeling of accomplishment with the other Meg Manning.
