Spring is in the air (and on my car, and my table, and my floor)

A few posts ago, Mary commented that she liked my reference to the “fine dusting of yellow kill-me-now powder” that was coating my car. I don’t know if it’s worse this year, or if I’ve just never noticed it before, but the pollen is freakin’ everywhere this spring. I had my my windows open to let some fresh air in a few days ago, but I had to shut them all tight when I came out one morning and found – you guessed it – a “fine dusting of yellow kill-me-now powder” all over my dining room table and every other surface anywhere remotely near(ish) the windows (near(ish) being within like 10 feet). It’s ridiculous. If I sit outside on the porch with my laptop, even after 10 minutes, the screen is coated in pollen. That cannot be good for it, I’m sure. My red chili pepper lights (yes, they’re still up, just like the Christmas tree – shutup) are beginning to look a bit orangey. I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but … I can’t wait for summer.

In other news, I went to go see Pan’s Labyrinth with Eva tonight at the cheap seats theater (how can you argue with $1.50 a ticket?). It was quite enjoyable, but perhaps my favorite thing about the movie was all the fabulous knitwear in the film!

At one point early in the movie, we saw a close-up of the main character’s feet, and she was wearing the cutest knit socks. I leaned over to Eva and whispered in her ear that I liked them. She turned and looked at me, and, eyebrow raised, asked me if I actually said that I liked her socks. What? I notice these kinds of things. Actually, the piece I kept drooling over the entire time was the sweater that the character Mercedes was wearing when it wasn’t covered up by the shawl seen in the above picture. I had to search high and low for a shot of it, and the best I could do was this grainy clip that I ganked from a video on YouTube… but it was lovely. You’ll just have to take my word for it. Or go see the movie and see for yourself.

I got a bit of work done on my fabulous new sock today. It’s so hard to tell from the photograph (especially when there’s only a few rows done so far), but trust me – it’s gorgeous. I’m so excited about how it’s turning out. I’ll keep you all updated on the progress of the pattern, I promise.

Coming Soon – Ellie’s Ewe Hues!

On Monday I’ll be unveiling the six new colorways of “Ellie’s Ewe Hues” that I’ve been dyeing up, and I’ll post the link to the store. Stay tuned!

  1. No no no… Allergies aside, I’ll put up with “yellow kill me now-powder” over oppressive Memphis summer heat any day of the week. There’s a REASON the blues was invented in Memphis, and it don’t got nothing to do with no Robert Johnson. Huff!

  2. You have surfaces?

  3. seriously, it seems much worse this spring! I was driving on this road and there’s a white sidewalk next to it that was definitely solid yellow. I had friends visiting and they were shocked! However, my actual allergies haven’t really bothered me much at all. Weird.
