Aw mom, just five more minutes!
You know what sucks? Getting this close to finishing a project, only to have bedtime approach. You know if you just stayed up a bit longer, you’d be able to finish it, but you also know that if you don’t go to bed now, it’ll end up taking you longer than you think to finish it, and you’ll be sewing in those loose ends at 2:00 am. And then tomorrow will suck because you just had to finish, and as a result, you didn’t get enough sleep. But still, you’ll go to bed thinking about those last 550 stitches to knit and seven loose ends to weave in that you had left before the project was done.
So, Eva’s gloves remain unfinished for tonight. Too bad, too, because we’re supposed to get some seriously nasty cold weather tomorrow. They’re calling for more snow and ice, which in this part of the country means serious winter. People freak out, school’s cancelled, and everyone stays home.
For me, staying home is bad. I’ve felt so under the weather the last few days. Weeks? I don’t know. It’s like I’ve got this cold I just can’t shake. So I’ve been working some from home, but I’m afraid I haven’t been very productive. I was planning on going in tomorrow to do some things I can’t easily do from home, show my face in the office, etc. But if the roads are icy… Maybe it’ll be another work-from-home day for me tomorrow, too. Oh well.
I’m glad I’m finishing up Eva’s gloves, though. Once I do, it means I can justify moving on to other things. I think the next project on my list is a sweater from the Berroco Soft Twist I bought after Christmas down at Knit Nouveau in Birmingham. Yay for sale yarn! I was able to get enough of this yarn for a sweater for a mere cost of about $85 (which is impressive when you consider that I’m a plus size).
I’ve knit up two swatches of this stuff so far. The first time, I didn’t get anywhere near guage - on a size 8, I got something closer to 16.5 sts / 4″ instead of the 20 sts they claimed. It took going down to a size 6 to get the guage they called for. But I like the fabric, and I like the colors. The problem I’m having is choosing a pattern. Sometimes I think that it’d make a most excellent jacket or cardigan. So I start leaning towards either “Lucy” or “Lizzy” from Naturally Noro.
But then I start thinking that it’d make a better pullover. Something like the oh-so-popular Hourglass Sweater. I just can’t make up my mind about it.
Oh well. Maybe by the time I’ve finished the gloves, the scarf, and a couple of socks that are cluttering up my WIP list, I’ll have it figured out.

Hey Liz,
I can see your mom’s pics on the LJ feed, but not yours. It says there’s an anti-off site linking thing going on. I like seeing your projects! If you don’t mind, would you allow the off-site linking? (If not, I can click the blog link. :-) I’m just interested in getting into knitting a little, so I like seeing all the stuff you’re doing.)
Love the gloves!

haha… I did the exact same thing last night with my scarf.
At 10:30 “I ONLY have 12 rows left… and its going to be cold tomorrow”
I actually did finish it… by midnight no less . And I got to wear it in the nasty weather today….
Now if only I had some comfy gloves :D
Just kidding Liz :)

Haha. :) Well, the gloves will be finished tonight, so … you can have them tomorrow, if I see you. If not, this weekend at the latest. :)
