What I did on my day off
The inaugural Sunday afternoon Knit-In was held at Yarn Expressions yesterday, and it was a hoot. Even though I was busy taking pictures, I still had some time to knit. I usually only take to the store projects that are available at the store, but yesterday I wasn’t “working”, so I took BJ Bass’ hand dyed yarn to swatch.
My original plan was to knit, for the third time, my favorite design from Pacifc Coast Highway, Noyo Harbor. I had made it first for CJ five or six years ago, in a sport weight yarn. Bass always has admired that sweater, and since the style of dyeing is the same in his yarn, I thought it would work. Wrong! It was a jumbled mess. I passed the swatch around and nobody else liked it either.
The good thing about swatching for a new project in a yarn store is that you have many resources at hand. I wandered around a bit, and then came across a copy of one of my very favorite books, Saturday Sweaters, by Carol Rasmussen. Eureka! Mistake stitch rib is the answer to my problems! So I swatched:
He likes it, I like, everybody at the Knit-In liked it, so this project is now a go. I’ll leave you with photos of the artiste at work.
PS — I reviewed your Photoshop tutorial before I took the picture of the swatch — can you tell?
