Boredom and socks

I’m exhausted. The vast majority of the day was spent tweaking the layout of my project pages. I’m such a jerk when it comes to getting things just how I want them – when I get into a project, I ignore all the other things I really ought to be doing. And the project is not done until it is exactly the way I want it. The way I picture it in my head. One of the big reasons I wanted to start this blog in the first place was so that I’d have a place to keep a record of all the things I’ve accomplished – the knitted projects, the dyeing, the designs. So the layout and navigation of the projects pages were important to me. And getting them to look the way I wanted took hours of looking up code (prior to this endeavour, the WordPress template tags and methods of coding were completely foreign to me – I’ve learned a lot in the past several days), rearranging things, trying out new plugins, rewriting code… And by this evening, I was beat. I hadn’t done anything but stare at a computer all day, and this on my Saturday off from work!

Really, this entire week has been spent either at work or fiddling with the blog’s layout. And I’ve missed my knitting. I hadn’t touched the needles since last weekend. So tonight, even though I had a terrible headache, I pulled out one of my hand-dyed sock yarn socks to work on (Modern Moonlight – the blue and black one). The picture I posted in my last entry was as far as the sock had gotten before tonight. So I sat there tonight and just knit while I watched Catch Me If You Can on TV. It was great mindless knitting (perfect, considering I wanted to focus on nothing for a while). And I found myself finishing the last bit of kitchnering on the toe as the movie was wrapping up. You couldn’t ask for a more relaxing evening. Really, it was a great way to end a fairly frustrating day.

Maybe now that the blog is finally fully set up I can devote more time to actually knitting again. Lord knows I’ve got a ton of projects to finish up. Eva’s gloves (will she get them before it’s warm out again?), my scarf (I may wear it even if I don’t finish it until spring – that Cashsoft is just so nice to feel), and many, many socks. The Chocolate Covered Cherries is calling to me, begging to be made into socks. I’ve already ripped it out a few times trying to find just the right pattern for it, but I think I’ve finally settled on this cool slip-stitch pattern. And then there are the various sweaters I’ve got lined up… Not to mention the dyeing I keep planning to do. I think it’s a testament to how stressful your life is if even your hobbies are starting to overwhelm you.

I’ll post pictures of the Modern Moonlight sock tomorrow. It really is quite lovely, and it fits like a glove sock. :)
